The accident and emergency department provides emergency medical services to patients who may suffer from cardiac arrests, trauma, mental illness, asthma and heart attacks. During road accidents or fall, the victim may experience trauma due to multiple injuries in different organs. It is necessary for trained professionals to handle this with care. Major trauma is a term used for people with multiple injuries. It is initially treated in the emergency department but later handled by a specialized trauma department. A trauma team, which is trained in the principles of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), takes over treatment of the victim. Emergency services provided in the accident and emergency department to road accident and other accident victims may vary from simple x-rays and setting of broken bones, to activating a full-fledged trauma care team to take over management of the patient care. If critical care is provided within the critical time frame “golden hour”, chances of survival of the patient are greatly improved
